MARTHA MEMORIAL HAS A STEEPLE

Martha Memorial Has A Steeple

A special little white church sits on a hill
I've often sat on the steps, it was peaceful and still
By the porch was a bell, donated by some people
All the church needed was a beautiful steeple

Many times I mowed the cemetery grass
I saw people in cars, trucks, and tractors pass
By this sacred church built by man's hands
Firmly planted on the solid rock it stands

This little church is a humble place
Filled with God's love and His grace
The cemetery nearby is slowly filling up
With many of those saints, I did sup

On top of the roof, the steeple stands tall
The Lord was pleased as on His name they did call
Prayers were answered in a special way
When the steeple was placed on the church that day.

RAIN

James 5.18 "And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit."

I was invited to preach at a small church in a rural part of the county. This was farming country. As I drove up there, I noticed the corn was twisting and the fields were very dry and dusty. Rain was desperately needed!

As the service began, the word of the Lord came to me, "Irvin, preach about Elijah and how he prayed for rain."

I preached on prayer and specifically mentioned how God said that Elijah was a man subject to like passions as us. Yet, Elijah believed that God controlled everything on this earth and he could and would send rain if we asked him. I asked the question, "Does everyone here believe in prayer? Raise your hand if you do." Every hand from the youngest to the oldest lifted up. I said, "Now that we are all in agreement, we can pray and ask the Lord to send rain on this dry and thirsty land." As I began to pray, the Spirit of the Lord moved on the people. They knew we had just touched heaven. Despite no prediction of rain, that Sunday evening, that community received over two inches of rain. Several months later, I went back to the church. One member, widely known for his sense of humor, stated, "Irvin is here, it's gonna rain again."

Matthew 18.19 "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."

I HEAR THE CLOCK TICKING

The silence of the house was interrupted by a sound
The clock loudly ticked as the second hand moved around
Time was slipping away, minute by minute, day by day
I could do nothing to keep time at bay

Where did those 18,980 days of my 52 years go
I started searching high and low
After many days seeking, I concluded at last
Those days, weeks, months and years were in my past

How many more days do I have to live
It is in God's hands, my breath He does give
The past is behind me, tomorrow I may not see
My future is in Jesus' hands, He holds the key

In heaven there will be no sound of the clock
Jesus holds the key, this door He'll unlock
Trust in Him who holds time in His hand
The hourglass of old will have no sand

My future is certain, this I believe
He offered me a gift, and I did receive
Eternal salvation that didn't cost a dime
Now I no longer worry about the passage of time.

DOES GOD STILL SPEAK TO US IN DREAMS

Matthew 1 verse 20 "But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."

Joseph listened to the angel of the Lord, believed his dream was from God, and obeyed the instructions. Many times throughout the Bible, in both the old and new testaments, God has spoken to his own in dreams, given instructions, and revealed His will. Does He still do the same today? I say yes.

Here are two examples from my personal experience.

Shortly after I was saved, my 10 year old son asked me, "Daddy, where does it say in the Bible that the devil fell from heaven?" I didn't know off hand and it was late so I told him I would look the scripture up in the morning. I went to sleep and began dreaming. In this dream, a large Bible was opened to the scripture Isaiah 14 verse 12. I awoke from my sleep (it was about 2 AM), turned on my bedside lamp, picked up my Bible from the table, and read the scripture. It reads "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down in the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" God showed me this in a dream!

The next example is about a friend of mine, Dorsey. I dreamed I went over to his house, and there were many people there. I knocked on the door, his wife came to the door, and I asked, "Where is Dorsey?" She pointed across the road, and there he was, dressed up in a pretty blue pin striped suit. He had a big grin on his face and was waving bye. I awoke from this dream (it was about 3 AM), and said, "Lord, you are about to take Dorsey home, aren't you?" The Lord replied, "Yes." I began to grieve for him and prayed for him and his family. About two weeks later, on a Sunday night, I called him and asked was he doing ok. He said yes and I told him I loved him and appreciated him. The following Wednesday, he dropped dead of a heart attack. I went over to his house, and there were many people there. He looked peaceful in his coffin, dressed in that pretty blue pin striped suit. God had revealed this to me in a dream!

I have had many more....Have you had experiences like these?

Psalms 1 verse 2 "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

TWAS TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Twas two weeks before Christmas morn
Until that day the Savior was born
There was no Santa Claus present at that stable
Some believe the virgin birth is a fable

The three wise men knew of his coming birth
Which would take place at a spot on the earth
They knew that the time of His coming was nigh
They had observed the signs in the sky

That great star of Bethlehem shone so bright
Made the darkness flee before it's light
The wise men began to prepare for their journey
Gathered some gifts and a little money

With joy in their hearts and a song on their lips
Over the desert they went through the hills and dips
They knew that their eyes soon would see
The one who came so they could be free

The two weeks went by so fast
Their spirits soared as they saw the stable at last
They entered the stable and saw a sight to behold
For the next 2000 years this story would be told

Of the Savior who was born in a humble abode
Mary and Joseph on a little donkey rode
To Bethlehem that long ago day
Where our Savior was born to show us the way.

THEY SHALL STUDY WAR NO MORE

THEY SHALL STUDY WAR NO MORE

God has said in His Holy Book
You can find it in Isaiah, just look
There is coming a great day of peace
When wars and rumors of wars will cease

Nation shall not lift up sword against nation
Soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen will be on vacation
There will be no more students studying war
No more sounds of the bombs' deadly roar

The wolf and the lamb shall feed side by side
This is the promise of Jesus, for you He died
How will it feel to be content and free
When from the whole earth conflicts flee

Malachi Chapter four gives another great promise
One like Elijah will come, he'll be no doubting Thomas
He shall turn the hearts of the children to their Dads
And the hearts of the fathers to their lasses and lads

Oh that men everywhere would kneel and pray
So we could soon see that glorious day
Jesus has promised to come back again
The only question is just a matter of when

Because of His word we have a bright tomorrow
There will be an end to trouble and sorrow
Is Jesus your savior, your king and your friend
Accept Him today because this world will end.

PEARL HARBOR DAY

Pearl Harbor Day

From 1982 to 1985, I lived in the Aloha state
To serve in the 25th Infantry Division was my fate
Oahu was beautiful with rainbows galore
Peaceful and fragrant from shore to shore

I went down to Pearl Harbor bay
It was hard to imagine the chaos of that day
When suddenly the island was exploding with sound
Noises of airplanes, bombs and gunfire all around

I rode the boat to the memorial site
Saw the engraved names of those who did fight
And lost their lives in that deadly attack
Some, I suppose, never had a chance to fight back

Freedom cost the lives of our nation's best
On the ocean below their bodies now rest
To see Old Glory flying over the Arizona that day
Brought tears to my eyes and reminded me to pray

To the Lord God who rules from heaven above
That He would comfort us with His great love
Remember those who died so we can be free
And the Star Spangled Banner, O Say Can You See.

GOD AND THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL

GOD AND THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL

Jeremiah 33.3 "Call unto me, and I will answer thee and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

It was late Saturday evening on that hot and humid August day in 1987. The Lord had saved me in January 1987, and He had already used me greatly. That evening, I had read the above scripture, and the Lord began to reveal unto me great and mighty things. One of the first spiritual gifts (1 Cirinthians, Chapter 12 verses 1-10) had imparted unto me was the gift of faith. Another was the gift of discernment of spirits. He had also been teaching me how to pray, and I had already seen glorious answers to many prayers. The Lord had also been teaching me how to come against evil supernatural forces.

Earlier, the Lord had used me to rebuke evil spirits. The first time this happened to me was at an old house in south Georgia. I was sitting in my office at Fort Stewart (I was in the Army at that time), when the Lord spoke to me and told me to go to Ludowici, a small town nearby. I immediately left my office, and drove to the town. When I arrived, I asked the Lord where to go, and He directed me to an old two story house down a side street. I parked my car, took my Bible in my hand, and went and knocked on the door. A woman opened the door, and I asked her if she had been experiencing any abnormal problems. With a look of amazement, she replied, "Yes, there is a room upstairs that has all kind of noises. We have nailed the door shut and it still has come open. My son tried to stay in that room but is was cold, and he was afraid of the noises." When she spoke these words, I sensed the presence of great evil. The hair of my flesh stood up (Job 4 verse 15 "Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:"). With Bible in hand, I told the woman the Lord had sent me there to get rid of that evil presence. As I began to walk up the stairs, I started calling on the name of Jesus and pleading the power of the shed blood. The great darkness and sense of evil almost overwhelmed me. I entered the room and began to come against the evil, saying "At the name of Jesus, devils have to flee. At the name of Jesus, we have the victory." My skin was crawling and my hair was sticking straight up. After several minutes of intense prayer and agony of soul, the evil fled, and I experienced a great peace that passes all understanding. The Lord spoke to me and said, "Mission accomplished." As I left the house, I told the woman that things were now okay. Several weeks later, I was reading about the history of the town of Ludowici. I read where two women were murdered in that room in that very same house where I had went earlier!

The Lord used me in other ways, also...He was training me for greater things.

In mid May, 1987, the Lord spoke to me and told me to go to Jekyll Island, Georgia. He showed me which motel to stay at but told me not to check in until later. The island is beautiful and has a storied history. Originally, it was owned by the very wealthy and they used it as a winter retreat. Some of the original houses are still there, restored to their former glory. Now, the state of Georgia owned the island.

I drove around the island and then went to the north end, near the pier. I saw a van from the motel where the Lord wanted me to stay, and asked the driver if there were any vacancies. He said, "No, we have a convention staying there. All of our rooms are filled." About 4:00 PM, the Lord spoke to me and told me to go on over to the motel. I did, went inside and stood in line. As I approached the motel desk, the telephone rang, and the desk clerk said, "Excuse me while I take this call." I waited, and then she came and asked me what could she do for me. I asked, "Do you have any vacancies?" She looked up at me and said, "We didn't but that phone call was a cancellation. We have one room. It is the Presidential suite. You can have it at regular room price." So, I paid her the $75 and stayed at the motel where the Lord showed me I would be staying.

I went to sleep in that big old bed around 10:00 PM and around 11:30 PM I was awakened by the sound of music. A band downstairs was playing and singing a gospel song, "I Saw the Light". The Lord spoke to me and said, "I have a mission for you to do." I dressed, went outside, got in my car, and drove to a secluded part of the island. I began to pray and seek the Lord for my purpose of being there. Suddenly, the oppression of the people in the USSR came to me in a vision. The hair of my flesh stood up, and I sensed a great darkness, an evil beyond words to describe. I began to intercede in prayer for the people in the USSR and to plead the blood of Jesus. After about 30 minutes of this spiritual warfare, I felt the presence of the Lord as a great peace flooded my entire being. The Lord spoke to me and said, "Mission accomplished, you can go back to the motel." I did, and enjoyed a blissful sleep and the rest of my visit there. Shortly after this, the USSR dissolved.

Now comes that August day when the Lord had me praying all that night. I began to have visions...I saw soldiers killed in wars, children screaming in fear, Jews being loaded into railroad cars, smokestacks billowing foul black smoke as Jews were being burned in the furnaces of concentration camps. I heard the cries of terror and fear. An evil so deep enveloped me and all I could do was call upon the name of Jesus. The vision of evil I had went back into time--I saw slaves being whipped, people being thrown from their lands by legions of soldiers, and Christians being burned and beheaded. The evil was so deep that the hair of my flesh stood up all night. I began to march, just like the Israelites did when the walls of Jericho fell. I marched, prayed, and pleaded the precious blood of Jesus. I rebuked the evil forces in Jesus' name. By dawn, I was exhausted yet the evil was still there. Victory had not yet come. I continued to pray and around 3:33 PM that Sunday evening, I felt the burden removed and shouted with joy as the peace of God that passes all understanding washed through me. The Lord spoke and said, "Mission accomplished. Well done, thy good and faithful servant." Not many months later, the Berlin wall fell.

Ephesians 6.12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Many of you who read these words will understand what I have described---some won't. The Lord used me in these mighty spiritual battles to help millions of His own who had been crying out to Him. Since these experiences, the Lord has used me in other great ways. I am a soldier in His Army. His eyes run to and fro throughout the earth to show himself strong in behalf of those who have faith and believe in Him.

2 Corinthians 10 verse 4 "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds:)"
