Woman At the Well

Jesus was a prophet and only a few recognized him as one. There was a woman at the well who did, though. She said to him, John 4 v 19, "The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet." This was revealed to her because of the the things Jesus had said.

I find this very interesting as I believe it teaches a valuable lesson about prophets.

1. This was a one on one encounter
2. Jesus told her things about her life that he could only know by divine knowledge
3. Jesus gave her spiritual knowledge and hope
4. After this encounter, the woman went into the city and testified about Jesus
5. Jesus the prophet showed compassion for an "hopeless" outcast

I have had many one on one encounters with those who the Lord sent me to, and their lives were changed. One Sunday morning, the Lord spoke to me and said, "Don't go to church this morning. Instead, go to that convenience store on the corner of Highway 84 and Gilmore street, and sit in your car." So, upon hearing this, I did exactly what the Lord spoke to me.

I sat there about 30 minutes, and then a man I had went to high school with drove up. I knew he had problems with alcohol and drugs. I knew his mother, a fine Christian woman, and we had often prayed for her son. I remember one of her prayers was, "Lord, send someone by to tell my son about you." Well, this Sunday morning, I was the someone, and this was to be a new day for him.

He got out of his car, saw me, and came to me. He said, "I am tired of my life, I need help". I said, "I know, the Lord sent me here to help you and to pray for you". So, right outside the convenience store, I prayed for this prodigal son, and the Lord saved him right then and there. About 14 years later, his mother was on her deathbed, hooked up to life support systems, not expected to make it through the day. He called me and wanted me to be there when the machines were unhooked. His mom looked so pitiful lying there, and I knew that this was not what she wanted. We all held hands and prayed, and when the machines were unhooked, she gave a sigh of relief (this was a burden to her). She lived seven more days without machines..seven days of precious moments spent with her family and friends, and then the Lord sent his angels to carry her home.

I was invited to speak on her funeral, a joyful homegoing celebration, and her son came to me and said, "I never will forget that day at the convenience store. My old man died, and I became a new man in Jesus."

As an afterthought, I was criticized for not being at church that Sunday morning. "You should have been here and you would have got a blessing". I ignored this, in fact, I rejoiced because I knew the Holy spirit had led me, and another soul was added to God's kingdom.
