Keep the Faith

Keep the Faith

Hebrews 11 v 1: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Keep the faith when troubles and trials appear
When life itself seems hopeless and drear
Keep the faith when your way is blocked
When open doors become suddenly locked

Keep the faith despite what others may say
When you think why bother to bow and pray
Keep the faith in your deepest pain and grief
When your broken heart can find no relief

Keep the faith and cling tightly to the rope
When you feel like you can hardly cope
Keep the faith until you see a ray of light
When Jesus comes to help you fight

Keep the faith and God will honor you
When He sends you answers out of the blue
Keep the faith and always continue to pray
When it is time an answer will come your way

Sugar Cane Syrup

Sugar Cane Syrup

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was a child growing up in the 50's and 60's, one of my uncles had an annual "cane grinding". The smell of cooking sugar cane juice was one I will never forget. There would be dozens of people, all ages, at this event, and we would get to eat fresh ground sausage, homemade biscuits and pancakes, and of course, fresh cane syrup.

One of my uncle's sons, has revived this tradition, and two weeks ago, he made a fresh batch of syrup. I'm fixin' to fry some good hickory smoked bacon, make some french toast, and pour on the cane syrup. I didn't get to go to the event (I was picking up pecans) but one of my brother-in-law's brought me a quart bottle.

I'm makin' it here in the country outside this little ole town of Blackshear in south Georgia.

One Day We'll Be Together

One Day We'll Be Together

The Supremes sing a song, "Some Day We'll Be Together"
I'm growing quite nostalgic during this gloomy weather
I remember many of those who I no longer get to see
And my Mama's expression, "What will be will be"

I've had many failures and disappointments along life's way
Broken relationships, lost friendships, what more can I say
But all of those people have become part of my memory
I often think about an old fashioned preacher named Emory

I would like to reunite with some of them
Sit at a big old table and sing an old hymn
Amazing Grace would be a good one to sing
What comfort and hope that song does bring

As a soldier I have lived at many places
In my mind I can see some of the faces
Of those I served with across the sea
Fond memories of them come to me

You never know when an old friend will pop by
Many have departed to their home in the sky
One day we'll be together to part never more
When we set feet on that happy golden shore
