Little Is Much When God Is In It

Little Is Much When God Is In It

Luke 18 verse 16: "But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: For of such is the Kingdom of God."

One Saturday afternoon, I was having a spiritual struggle with the enemy. He said, "If God really called you to preach, you would be preaching in a church tomorrow morning. Look at you, you are a sorry excuse for a preacher. God did not call you to preach." I used one of my weapons to resist the enemy. I went to the Lord Jesus in prayer and prayed, "Lord, you know what the enemy just said. I believe you called me to preach and I'm asking you to open a door of opportunity for me to preach in the morning." As I prayed, I felt the strong presence of the Holy Ghost, so I knew this prayer was in accordance with God's will.

Saturday night passed without an invitation to preach. Sunday morning, I woke up early in anticipation of the Lord's command to go bring the Word. About 9:30 AM, the phone rang. It was my sister, Joanne. Her young son was in the hospital, and he asked her to call me to come have church with him. Here was my open door! I went on over to the hospital, and when I entered his room, he thanked me for coming. I asked him if he wanted to have a Sunday school lesson. He said, "No, I want you to preach a sermon." So there in that hospital room, my nephew, my sister and I had a special meeting with the Lord. The Lord had answered my prayer and confirmed my call to preach. Later, I had the special mission of leading my nephew to the new birth in Jesus (under my carport is where the Lord saved him).

Romans 10 verse 15 "And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things."

Why Are Church Doors Locked?

I would like to see churches open their doors 7 days a week.
[/quote]

Amen! I am old enough to remember when churches had no locks on their doors...The door was always open to any who felt a need to enter the sanctuary to pray or meditate on the Lord. I only know of one in my area that is still like that. It is a church beside the road over on US Highway 17 between Savannah and Brunswick, Georgia. The church is called "The Smallest Church in America". It is a beautiful little place, surrounded by towering moss draped live oak trees. It has a pulpit, stained glass windows, and holds about 12 people. The door is always unlocked, and many a traveler has entered into that peaceful little sanctuary.

I have been there several times, and prayed. People from all over write prayer requests, and as I read them, I saw how many people need the Lord in their lives. Once I was there, and a busload of disabled people pulled up. I stood behind that little pulpit and preached Jesus to them. They asked me to when they found out I was a preacher. How the presence of the Lord surrounded that little place that day! As we sang "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound", I recalled the days when I could enter the doors of my home church at any hour...without a key! The door was unlocked because we had faith that the Lord God Almighty could and would protect our church from thieves. Praise His name!

The Theft of My Daughter's Graduation Gifts

The Theft of My Daughter's Graduation Gifts

Proverbs 22 verses 22, 23 "Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them."

In June, 1997 my youngest daughter, Eva, graduated from Pierce County High School. I was so proud of her, especially since as a single parent I had raised her from age six. Her brother had graduated in 1995, and her oldest sister in 1992. All three had made it through, despite many adversities and obstacles thrown in their paths.

Eva received many graduation gifts, including money, from her family and friends. I gave her a bottle of Sunflower perfume (she had always liked sunflowers). Eva was invited by Chris, one of her classmates and her third cousin, to go on a family trip to Panama City Beach, Florida, about 300 miles from Blackshear. They were going to stay a week in a beach cottage. I used to go to Panama City Beach often when I was in the Army and stationed at Fort Rucker near Dothan, Alabama. It sure was a beautiful place.

Eva called me when they arrived, and I told her to have a wonderful well-deserved vacation. She had not been there two days when I received a phone call from her. Someone had broken into Chris' car and had stolen Eva's pocketbook, and several other items. She was devasted because all her graduation money (about $250) was gone. She said, "Daddy, they even stole my Sunflower perfume and my minature high school diploma.." I told her to calm down, and I would drive over and get her. I then prayed for her and asked the Lord to give her peace and assurance of His love for her. In an hour, Eva called me all happy. Someone gave her $50, and she decided she would stay.

Eva and Chris had a great time, and when she came home, she started to work. In front of the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Blackshear, someone rear ended her car. She was not hurt and the damage was estimated at $250 (just a scratch or two on the car). The other person's insurance company wrote her a check for $250...replaced the graduation money that had been stolen from her. I bought her another bottle of Sunflower perfume.

As I thought on the unfairness of this situation, I thanked the Lord for returning unto Eva what was stolen from her. I then wrote a letter to the editor of the Panama City Florida News, described the situation and asked that the thief return her minature high school diploma at the very least. She had already received new driver's license and had no credit cards. About three months after I wrote this letter, I checked my mail and there was a small envelope with a Panama City postmark. There was no return address. I opened the envelope and inside was Eva's minature high school diploma and nothing else. As tears came to my eyes, I thanked the Lord that He hears prayers and can return what the thief has stolen.

Eva believed in her Daddy's prayers and her faith was rewarded.

Proverbs 23 verse 24 "The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him."

I Attended President Carter's Sunday School Class

On 23 Feb 1992, I went to Plains, Georgia and sat in President Carter's Sunday School class at that small Baptist church (there were about 200 in attendance...the class was in the sanctuary and it was full). The majority in attendance were tourists.

President Carter taught from these scriptures (St Luke 6 verses 23 through 29). It was a good lesson and I was impressed with his sincerity. I sat on the front row and I was no more than four feet away from him. He talked about loving your enemies and praying for them which despitefully use you.

President Carter also honorably served in the US Navy. I do believe that as President, he honorably served, was honest and had a real appreciation for the office of President. He was humble, and knew that the Lord had all power.

I salute him.

THE DOVE IS A SPECIAL BIRD

The Dove Is a Special Bird

Noah had floated on the water for many nights and days
Finally the rain stopped and Noah basked in the sun's rays
While on top of mount Ararat Noah surveyed the land
As far as he could see everything was desolate and bland

At the end of forty days Noah sent forth a black raven
That went to and fro while Noah waited in the ark's haven
He also sent forth a dove that returned unto the ark
Because she had found no place for her feet to park

After seven more days he sent the dove out again
She flew swiftly over the previous places she had been
This time she came back to Noah bringing an olive leaf
A glorious sign of new beginnings to relieve Noah's grief

Can you imagine witnessing the destruction of the whole earth
And then seeing this sign from heaven of life's new birth
God then told faithful Noah to go forth be fruitful and multiply
As He said to him I will be with you and all your needs supply

Many wearisome years passed after Noah and this great event
Then one happy day another special dove from heaven was sent
It was the Spirit of God in the form of a snow white dove
And it descended upon Jesus as another sign from God above

John said behold the Lamb of God who takes away all sin
This historic event was witnessed by many women and men
The dove was created by God for this special purpose
Jesus came and gave his life on the cross for all of us
