Homecooking and Cousins

Entry for February 17, 2008 Homecooking and Cousins
Today, I ate dinner (or lunch as some call it) at Aunt Mildred's. She invited two of my sisters, and several of my first cousins. Three came from Jacksonville, and two of them I haven't seen in a long time. There was 18 of us there, but Aunt Mil cooked enough to feed 30 or more.

On the menu was baked ham, fresh sausage, baked chichen, homemade biscuits, creamed corn, dressing and gravy, stewed squash with onions, sweet potato casserole sprinkled with pecans, turnip greens, peas, macaroni and cheese, pecan pie, orange peel cake, a couple of other desserts, and sweet tea. It was all good.

We had a good time recalling precious memories.

There were eight children born to my grandpa and granny Winn. Aunt Mildred(Mam's twin sister..never married) and Aunt Ida Mae are the only two left alive. Today, three of Aunt Irma's girls were there (she had four girls and seven boys), two of Uncle Leo's girls (he had five and no boys..poor Uncle Leo), Aunt Ida Mae's daughter (she has three boys and Susan), and Uncle J.R.'s daughter, Jeannette (he had two girls (one died as a baby), and one son). He was killed in World War II. Three of Mama's children were there (me, and two of my sisters..I have two more sisters and no brothers).

No one was there from Uncle Archie's family (he had three children, one girl and two boys), nor from Aunt Hazel (one boy and one girl).

We had a great time.
